Savor Portugal: Lisbon, Porto & the Art of Slow Travel

01/11

Long Dinners, Historic Streets & Unforgettable Views

Portugal is best discovered slowly, one street, one meal, and one view at a time.

Portugal is built for lingering. Long lunches, longer conversations, and a coffee that somehow turns into the whole afternoon.

The good stuff here happens slowly. Over bread torn to mop up garlicky clams. Over a bifana eaten standing at a counter. Over a custard tart still warm enough to fog the glass it came from. Over a waiter lighting the chouriço at your table while one cold glass of vinho verde becomes a second, then a deeper Dão red.

So we planned this one to move at Portugal's pace, not ours. Two cities, plenty of room between them, and nothing on the schedule that feels like a sprint.

In Lisbon, we'll walk the hills with a friend who knows them block by block, taste our way through Portuguese wine, and settle into a city of tiled facades, rattling trams, and viewpoints that stop you mid-sentence. Then the city's yours. Wander Alfama with nowhere to be. Find a quiet miradouro. Let an afternoon get away from you over a coffee.

North in Porto, we'll eat our way through the city with friends who've built their lives around this food. The kind of meals you don't find on your own. We'll get out on the Douro, then cross the river to Gaia for a private evening in one of the old port lodges, the kind of dinner that comes up in conversation for years. And when you want a day of your own, Porto is made for getting pleasantly lost. Wander down to the Ribeira, watch the boats from the riverfront, and let the city set the pace.

Come hungry. Come curious. The rest takes care of itself.
